Fighting the FRIZZ
I have to say… I love a little frizz. It really does’t bother me that much. Sometimes I even think of it as my halo, but I do understand that most people do not feel the same way, so here are my best tips to FIGHT THE FRIZZ.
The first step to fighting frizz is understanding why frizz happens. If your hair is dry and it’s humid outside your hair is going to absorb moisture from the air around it. The hair shaft fills with with moisture from the air and POOF…FRIZZ.
Your hair can be dry for various reasons…over shampooing, over processing, excessive thermal styling, using the wrong products for your hair…the list could go on and on. I am going to give you some helpful hints that will help no matter what the reason for your dryness.
First line of defense against battling frizz is your hair’s own natural oils. Try to go longer between cleansing days. To help with this you can use dry shampoos or curl refreshers. I love using the Faux Dry from Blow Pro or Mister Right from DevaCurl. Be sure you are using a sulfate free cleanser, sulfates strip the hair’s natural oils. My personal favorite is DevaCurl NoPoo. It is free of sulfates, parabens, and silicone.
The second suggestion I have for you is to use a deep conditioner. When your hair is properly and adequately conditioned/hydrated it will not have as much room in the hair shaft to absorb moisture from the outside air. Daily I use DevaCurl One Condition and for deep conditioning I use Heaven In Hair also from DevaCurl. I recommend using a deep conditioner once a week.
Third, stop using a terry cloth towel on your hair…instead use an old cotton t-shirt or a microfiber towel to scrunch or blot your hair. DO NOT RUB you hair. Rubbing your hair will disturb the cuticle of the hair and cause frizz.
